Staying in Armenia: the prices
In Armenia, accommodation is available for every budget. It is true that prices are very high in Yerevan, the capital, but everyone will find somewhere to stay that suits their budget. In the areas around Yerevan, prices are much cheaper.
Throughout this article, we will focus on the various options for staying in Armenia, along with their prices. You are sure to find the option best suited to your needs and your budget. To find out more, read on to the very end!
Hotel complexes
Are you looking for a hotel complex for your trip to Armenia? The range of accommodation is increasingly varied. In the spa resorts, such as Dilijan, Tsaghkadzor, Jermuk and Lake Sevan, you will find many Soviet-era hotels and sanatoriums that have since been privatised or are state-owned. It is up to you to choose the option that suits you best.
In the country’s other towns (outside the capital), tourists travelling as a family can find small family-run hotels offering excellent value for money.
As for prices, a mid-range double room costs around 30,000 AMD in Yerevan, whereas elsewhere the rate does not exceed 20,000 AMD. For a room in a high-end hotel, the price can reach 60,000 AMD. As a reminder, the growing competition between hotels is starting to have a positive impact on rates. To find the best deal, don’t hesitate to play them off against each other!
If you plan to travel in summer, be sure to check whether the hotel has air conditioning or a fan, or heating in winter. These are very important points to know before booking a hotel in Armenia.

Hostels
When travelling with friends, hostels are the option that appeals most. Why? Mainly because of the price, which is generally very affordable.
If you want to spend a few days in Yerevan, the city has around five hostels. Note that the bathrooms and kitchen are usually shared. As for breakfast, it is often included in the price, and you will have internet access.
Hostels generally offer travellers both dormitories and private rooms. Everyone will find the option best suited to their needs, and above all to their budget.
Note that the price ranges between 6,000 and 7,500 AMD per person. For a double room with a bathroom, the rate can climb to 20,000 AMD or more.
A homestay
Want to see how Armenians actually live, day to day? Book a homestay. It’s the surest way into the country’s culture and traditions, and the connections you make tend to outlast the trip. And, the icing on the cake, the prices are very reasonable, with some hosts even offering you breakfast, or dinner too. In this way, you will enjoy a lovely moment of sharing and discover the daily life of Armenians. What more could you ask for?
The homestay is without doubt the best way to visit Armenia. To communicate with your host, it is best to speak Armenian or Russian. If you don’t master either language, you will always end up understanding one another one way or another. As for prices, they range between 5,000 and 7,000 AMD per person.
Cottages and domiki
Located around Sevan, cottages and domiki are another way to stay in Armenia. In general, these lodgings host summer holidaymakers.
Admittedly, the accommodation is of poor build quality, which may be a drawback for some travellers, but the lakeside location will make you forget everything else. As for the price, it ranges between 10,000 and 35,000 AMD.
Camping in Armenia
Fancy camping in Armenia? If so, be aware that there are certain spots open in summer along the shores of Lake Sevan where you can pitch your tent and enjoy a truly one-of-a-kind experience. There are some lovely spots! Beyond Lake Sevan, it is hard to find somewhere to camp. But “seek and you shall find”, as they say.
Be aware that there are no establishments offering campsites in the country. So don’t go looking for official campsites! But as already mentioned above, it is very easy to find places to camp, with or without shelter. The country has many streams: you will find them in every village, along the roads and even in the most unlikely places.
Note that wild camping is permitted in Armenia. You will find spots in the south, in the mountains, or even across the rest of the country. Beware! Bogus wildlife wardens may try to convince you that you have to pay to camp. If so, ask for a receipt to shut them up!
Finally, we advise you to book your accommodation at least 3 months before departure. Outside the capital, and especially during high season, it is very difficult to book a place to stay. Book ahead and travel with peace of mind! For the wider practicalities, our practical guide to Armenia covers everything else you need to know.
